The People Around You Shape Your Image
From ancient times to the present day, whether it is a monarchy, democracy, political system, or any other form of administration, one thing has always been common. Every leader or senior officer is surrounded by advisors, helpers, well-wishers, and family members. In the beginning, these people often win trust through their good behaviour and support. Sometimes they truly prove to be trustworthy, and this creates a strong bond and lasting influence.
But over time, when a leader depends only on the same group of people every day, they may slowly stop using their own independent thinking and judgment. As a result, the image of that leader in public is largely influenced by the people around them. In many cases, nearly 70% of a leader's reputation—good or bad—is shaped by those close to them. This is how public perception is created.
So, what should we do?
Never allow your independent thinking to die. Choose your company wisely. Regularly review both yourself and the people who influence your decisions. From time to time, give new and unfamiliar people a chance to meet you. Listen to them carefully. Some people will offer honest advice without expecting any reward or salary. The only condition is that they are respectful, sincere, and well-intentioned.
A wise leader does not only listen to familiar voices. They also remain open to new perspectives.
